Nowadays cooperation of physics and medicine has become tighter as ever before. Physics provides medicine with new explanations, tools for diagnostics and treatment, but medicine gives physics insight in completely new world. There are countless areas of cooperation; just to name some of them: x-rays, NMR, CT, biomedical optics. The last one had great impact on modern surgery, diagnostics of eye diseases, cancer etc. In present text I am presenting the mechanisms of treatment of skin vascular disease, more precisely treatment of port wine stain (PWS) using laser irradiation.

Background and Objective: Laser therapy using the flashlamp-pumped pulsed dye laser (FPDL), along with contact cryotherapy, has proven to be an effective method with few side effects in the early treatment of superficial hemangiomas in infancy. The long-pulsed frequencydoubled Nd:YAG laser (VersaPulset) is a new kind of laser whose efficacy and safety we examined in direct comparison with the FPDL.

THE EFFICIENCY OF LASER RADIATION ABSORPTION BY HEMOGLOBlN AND OXYHEMOGLOBIN IN THE SKIN BLOOD VESSELS

Abstract. The results of the investigation of the efficiency of light absorption by oxyhemoglobin (Hb02) and deoxyhemoglobin (Hb) in cutaneous blood vessels in dependence on the radiation wavelength and the optical properties of the tissue is presented. Using the Kubelka- Munk optical model of the tissue the spectral dependence of the efficiency of laser interaction both on Hb02 and Hb of blood vessels at different depths of the tissue layer are calculated. The obtained results show that for blood vessels located in tissue up to a depth of 2500 ~bm the efficiency of laser radiation absorption follows the shape of the Qabsorption bands of Hb02 and Hb.
